Tobe Hooper is an American television and film director best known for his work in the horror film genre. His pic include Lifeforce, Poltergeist and the watershed exploitation classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
Prior to becoming the movie maker, Hooper, the indigene of Austin, Texas, spent the Sixties as a documentary cameraman. He organized the little cast world health organization were too college teachers & students, & so he and Kim Henkel manufactured A Texas Chain Saw Massacre. This film changed a horror screenland. Hooper depending it upon the real life killings of Ed Gein, a cannibalistic killer responsible the macabre slaying of many population in the Fifties. Hooper rejoined a cast of Texas Chainsaw Massace & Kim Henkel for Eaten Alive (1976), a gory horror film using Mel Ferrer, William Finley & Marilyn Burns (who played a lead around Texas Chain Saw). the film centered about the caretaker of a motel world health organization feeds his guests to his pet alligator. As well in the film was Robert Englund. Hooper helped raise his career & worked by owning him once again later. Eaten Alive besides won several awards at Horror Film Festivals.
Hooper experienced wonderful profits by using Stephen King's 1979 miniseries ''Salem's Lot. Inside 1981, Hooper directed the teenage slasher film for Universal Pictures, The Funhouse; despite its profits, the film was a minor disappointment. Within 1982, Hooper found greater profits after Steven Spielberg enlisted him to direct his production of Poltergeist. It quickly became the top ranking major motion picture.
Poltergeist was maybe the greater profits than Texas Chainsaw Massacre. 3 years late Hooper signed the 3 month locate Menahem Golan and Cannon Films, and directed a revelatory Lifeforce (1985), a remaking of Invaders from Mars and the sequel to his earliest film, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 (1986). Since so, Hooper has as well directed deuce Robert Englund films: Nighttime Terrors (1993) & The Mangler'' (1995), and has directed many horror television sitcoms. He besides directed a pilot of Freddy's Nightmares, the television spin-off of A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Since so Hooper hwhen never to return in to Direct a Pilot & Premier episodes for such Sci-Fi series as "DARK SKIES' and once again working with Spielberg, the miniseries event "TAKEN"
Hooper's most recent effort is a remake of the exploitation classic The Toolbox Murders, which despite being a direct to video release has garnered very positive reviews.
